Salford is an ambitious university at the heart of a fast-developing community. Our expertise is helping to transform individuals and communities through excellent teaching, research, innovation and engagement.

Our campus is at the heart of a £650m regeneration scheme and with the Media City UK, Salford and adjoiningManchesterare exciting places to be. We’re at the forefront of this transformation, leading the way in areas such as health, energy, media and the built environment. Our 20,000 students contribute enormously to the local economy and the courses they study on are designed with employment in mind, helping them and the economy obtain real-world skills.

Salford has long been famed for its work with business. We’re carrying on this tradition by helping our graduates become entrepreneurs and supplying our expertise to small business and multinational enterprises such as SSL – owners of Scholl and Durex.

This tradition is taking a new step forward with our presence at MediaCityUK. Working closely with the BBC and other digital and creative industries our researchers, students and graduates are helping to shape the future of the media sector in theUK.

Why study at Salford

If you’re thinking of coming to Salford to study for a degree or foundation degree then here’s all the information you need.

At Salford, our undergraduates don’t fit into one mould. In fact, at Salford, there’s no such thing as a typical student.

The facts speak for themselves:

  • Over half of our first year undergraduates are over 21
  • Over 2,500 undergraduates study part-time
  • Over half of our students are from the local area
  • Over 700 of our undergraduates are from overseas
  • We are equally likely to accept students with BTECs and Access qualifications as well as those with A levels
  • We recognise work and life experience can count towards entry to a programme if you don’t have formal qualifications

Your student experience

A big part of university is the student lifestyle. Whether you choose to live away from home or commute in, we want to make sure you get the most out of your university experience.

We’re minutes from Manchester and part of one of Europe’s largest student populations – and all the nightlife that comes with it.

Plus the onsite Sports Centre allows you to burn off some energy or you can pop into our Students’ Union Bar for a drink and to meet friends.

The Students’ Union has clubs covering every sport under the sun, from skydiving to netball – and student activities groups with everything from debating to belly dancing. It’s a great way to meet people.
