Choosing a university is one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make. After all, it’s going to be your life for the next few years – and what you learn as a student will shape your future too. At Strathclyde we understand what a big deal that is, which is why we offer you a flexible, innovative learning environment that will help you learn in a way that suits you – and succeed in your future.
Many Strathclyde students choose to live on campus in their first year because it’s a great way to settle into life away from home and get to know other new students. It’s also convenient for studying, comfortable, safe, affordable and fun.
Our Mission
The University was established in 1796 as ‘the place of useful learning’ and this remains our mission today: to combine academic excellence with social and economic relevance.
As ‘the place of useful learning’ the University is committed to the advancement of society through the pursuit of excellence in research, education and knowledge exchange, and through creative engagement with partner organisations at local, national and international levels.
To be a distinctive institution, characterised by leading research and technology of international standing and with a reputation for excellence across research, education and knowledge exchange.
To provide a high-quality, inspirational education experience to all our students and produce outstanding professional and enterprising graduates for industry, business and the professions. To be modern in our outlook, generating new ideas, creating fresh opportunities and engaging in collaborative activities and strategic partnerships that benefit wider society.
To enable and encourage all staff to develop their full potential and contribute to the achievement of the University’s mission.
To contribute to the development and quality of life of our City, nation and the international community.
In the heart of student life
Our residences are welcoming and sociable places to stay and study. There are almost 2,000 rooms on offer, all of them just minutes from the main university buildings, Students’ Union, libraries and sports facilities – as well as the city centre, with all its shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, cinemas and other entertainment.
Student Village
The city centre John Anderson Campus contains a student village right in the heart of Glasgow. There’s a free and frequent shuttle bus between John Anderson and Jordanhill campuses to help you get around quickly and easily.
