Why Exeter?
We deliver a first class education and the personal and professional skills required for a successful career. We engage with students and put them at the centre of all that we do. We help you become who you want to be.
A first class education
The University of Exeter’s status as a top 10 university has been confirmed by its new ranking in The Sunday Times University Guide 2012. The University of Exeter now ranks 9th in this league table and is also ranked 10th in The Times and 11th in The Guardian. Added to this, Exeter is ranked in the top one per cent of universities in the world, according to the Times Higher Education international rankings.
We are also in the top 10 for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey; for the number of students achieving Firsts or 2:1s; and for entry standards (students achieving AAB at A level and above). From 2012 we offer first years a weekly minimum of 10 hours of teaching time for humanities and social sciences and 15 hours for science. We recruit leading academics: people who extend the boundaries of knowledge through their research. This makes for exciting and challenging teaching and equips you with the very latest knowledge.
We see academic research and teaching as complementary activities: you will be taught how to undertake research, which is an important workplace skill, ‘Beautiful, friendly, fun, exciting, green’ and ‘welcoming’ are the most popular words chosen by our students to describe their University. Our campuses are among the finest in the UK. Iconic new buildings like the Forum and more than 2,500 on-campus student rooms have been created through a £350 million investment programme.
Exeter has one of the highest National Student Survey rankings in the country and has been in the top 10 since the survey began. In 2010 we scored in the top 10 for teaching, academic support, personal development, and overall satisfaction.*Nineteen of our subjects are in the top 10 nationally according to The Times or Guardian 2011 rankings
